What is Astrology

Astrology is the science of interpreting the guidance the universe gives us. It uses the impulses that the living world feels from the bodies within our solar system. Impossible? The sun and the moon exert a huge pull on our planet, most visible in the oceanic tides. Some impulses and influences are far more subtle, but they exist nonetheless.

The planets, the sun, and the moon behave very much like people, and simply looking at the position of the sun sign at birth is a rather limiting prospect if you wish to explore the vastness and majesty of astrology. The planets have moods, and although they may exhibit certain traits outwardly, they too like us have moods, states of mind, and physical and spiritual stature.

Astrology is complex – your daily horoscope is merely an indication of what could happen – it is not a prediction! In fact, the daily picture is less likely to be an accurate guide.

So, you might know your star sign (the sign of the zodiac in which the sun was when you were born), but astrology also looks at the position of the planets in a ‘clockface’ around the heavens. They interact and influence each other; some are rising and others sinking; others may even be going backward (retrograde).

Let’s put some unhelpful ideas to rest. Astrology is not a dark art! It is not linked to magic. It dates back many thousands of years – there are wonderful paintings in Egyptian temples that depict the signs of the Zodiac.

Horoscopes are found in the ‘puzzle’ or ‘entertainment’ sections of newspapers because the editors don’t understand it beyond a form of entertainment.

Astrology is much more personal than what daily horoscopes can provide. If you are looking for guidance on how to live your life, astrology can help bring you in tune with the universe. There is so much that we don’t understand, and maybe never will, but we can get closer to manage our lives.
