Ninth House

The Ninth House is commonly called the House of Philosophy. In keeping with that theme, it’s our search for meaning that is the focal point here. By virtue of exploring our world, we start to grasp everything that is available to us.

Through higher education, you have the hope of understanding concepts and theories that will enhance our world. Whether it’s philosophy or psychology, the Ninth House reminds you that you are on a voyage of discovery. Along that road, you will come face-to-face with your ideals and further shape your ethics.

A concrete understanding of the possibilities in life may well lead to ruthless ambition and greed, and an over-expansion of the self. To face these demons most effectively in society, we institute laws. These laws provide for the orderly and positive growth of that society. In much the same way, philosophy and religion help add focus and purpose to a productive society.

The way in which you expand your inner and outer lives is also addressed by the Ninth House. Travel and interaction with other peoples and cultures are a means to this end. Your dreams — those that illustrate your past as well as those that appear to predict future events — also help to mould your being and your relationships.

This house also has a multigenerational view, taking into account grandchildren, as well as in-laws. Contrary to the 3rd house, this house represents higher education and universities, as well as an understanding of abstract topics. It is also related to law and legality, and religion.

The Ninth House is ruled by Sagittarius and the planet Jupiter.
